17th October 2017

Families in Peterlee will be treated to a fun-packed Halloween this year, with Castle Dene Shopping Centre’s array of spooky activity.

On Friday 27th – Sunday 29th October, between 11am-4pm daily, the centre will be inviting local youngsters in to take part in creepy arts and crafts, lantern making, a fancy dress parade and more.

Freaky Friday (27th October)

Kick-starting the free celebrations, Discovery Zoo will be making a special trip to the centre on Friday, with their strange and scary creatures. Workshop sessions on the freaky beasts, which include the Caroliner Rat Snake and Death’s Head Cockroach, will take place at 11am, 1pm and 2pm.

Most creatures will be available for the rest of the day also, for kids wishing to pop in and meet them.

Customers will also be able to enjoy a free-to-enter lucky dip from 11am daily, with the opportunity to win a selection of goodies while stocks last, from chocolate treats to toys for kids.

Spooky Saturday (28th October)

The Saturday will include complimentary Halloween face painting throughout the day.

From 4pm, children of all ages will be invited to join the fancy dress parade. Cllr, Audrey Laing, will be making a special appearance on the day to judge the best creative costume. The lucky prize-winner will receive a £50.00 voucher to spend in Castle Dene Shopping Centre for their efforts.

Scary Sunday (29th October)

For Sunday’s visitors, the centre will be running workshops between 11am-2.30pm on how to make your own Halloween hats and lanterns, as well as your own squishy-squashy play doh creatures and creepy colouring in.

Operations Manager at the centre, Sarah Bromwich, said: “Everyone here at Castle Dene is excited to invite the local community in for some Halloween fun. It’s fantastic that we’re able to offer activities and workshops that are both educational and entertaining, at an exciting time of year for kids.

“We look forward to getting stuck in and can’t wait to welcome our customers in to the centre.”
