Families in Castle Dene have enjoyed celebrating a fun-packed Christmas this year, with their local shopping centre’s array of on-going seasonal activity.

On Friday 24th November, Christmas was officially launched at the centre, as shoppers were treated to a stunning live performance from local star, Sam Lavery, who had the honour of switching on the centre’s Christmas lights.

Visitors enjoyed an evening of family fun and games, hosted by Sun FM, as well as further performances from other talented acts. Singing and piano double act Liv N Gee, Dance Jam, Dene Hill Primary School Choir and local pop group, Sparkles, also took to the stage, delighting the public with their exciting performances.

The Creation Station returned to the centre for the first of four seasonal sessions, helping kids to make crafty Christmas hats to wear at the switch on event. Local kids enjoyed getting stuck in to yet more arts and crafts during the weekends leading up to Christmas.

The Rotary Club of Easington and Peterlee made a special visit to the centre in early December, to collect around the tree of remembrance for their worthwhile charitable cause.

The public were also treated to uplifting performances from Shotton Hall Academy Choir, with Seascape Primary School scheduled to arrive at the centre on Wednesday 20th December for even more seasonal singing.

With Christmas just around the corner, Santa has instructed his very best ‘Elfie Helpers’ to make a special trip to Castle Dene on Saturday 23rd and Sunday 24th December to help those last minute shoppers wrap their presents and spread some Christmas cheer.

Also on Saturday, the elves will also be delivering ‘Letters from Santa’. Local children have been submitting their letters to Santa using the centre’s special post box during the Christmas period.

Castle Dene Operations Manager, Sarah Bromwich, said: “This year, Christmas has been fully embraced by all of our retailers and shoppers, with everyone getting into the full seasonal spirit.

“It was fantastic to welcome Sam Lavery to the centre to switch on our lights and its safe to say that everybody thoroughly enjoyed listening to her sing.

“We can’t wait to welcome yet more shoppers in this weekend, with yet more fun planned for shoppers just a few days away from Christmas.”
